Cadette Girls Want to Help Kids Learn to Read

This message forwarded from Cadette Leader Maria Burke:

"I am looking for Kindergarten through 2nd graders who may need help with reading. Two of my 7th grade Cadette scouts have chosen to initiate a "Reading Buddies" type of program for their Silver Award. They are volunteering to help younger kids learn to read. These two scouts were particularly interested in working on a project for kids. For now, my scouts are focused on first graders, but they may be willing to expand the scope if there is a specific need.

First graders meet my Cadette scouts at the Vestavia Library at a set time (usually on the weekend). The Library asks that parents of the first grader stay at the library during the reading help session.

My girls have distributed flyers at VHEW - I hope to get one of their flyers on the blog site soon. As usual, this type of program is usually best received when shared by the old fashioned "word of mouth," so that is why I'm telling you. Until we get the flyer up on the Shades Mountain Blog, please use my cell phone 205-541-8278 as the right contact for anyone that might be interested in this helpful (and free) program. THANKS!"
